<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">Primary 5. Topic: Flowers. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">Unit Goals: 1. To let the students know about the shoot system of a plant. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">2.To let them know that flowers are living things. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">3. To let them be familliar with local flowers</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;"> Learning Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to: </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">1.List the parts of flowers. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">2.Label and identify parts of flowers </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">3.Identify the functions of the parts of flowers. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">Materials: -Diagram/picture of a flower -Textbooks -Videos -real flowers. -Interactive whiteboard -Lap top -OHP Projector </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">For the Hook, Teacher can show the students a real flower into the classroom, e.g Hibiscus flower. Ask the students about the flower. Do they know about the flower? The name of the flower? Where can they find it? and so on. Teacher continues asking question about the flower to arouse the students&#8217; curiousity about the flower and ask them to abserve it. After 5 minutes, then teacher relate the discussion into the content of the lesson for that day. Other than that, Teacher can simply show pictures of video slides about the different kinds of flowers to the students. After the show, the teacher can ask the students about the video that they have watched. Do they recognise any of the flowers? Where can they usually see them? And so on.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">During exploration, In order for the students to explore new concepts, teacher divide the students into small groups where they can work together. Each group are given one sample flower to be observed. Teacher ask the students to observe what they can see from the given flower. At the same time the teacher describe and explain the parts of the flower. Flower diagram are provided at the whiteboard and teacher label the parts of the flower. After describing one part of the flower (e.g. petals), teacher can show the petals of the flower to the students. Students can record, write and label the parts of the flower in their exercise book.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">3. To let the students be able to add and subtract numbers in tens up to 100 and maybe even higher. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">Learning Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;"> 1.Identify the functions of the operations.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;"> 2. Solve the Equations on additon and subtractions correctly. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">3. Place the numbers according to the correct place values.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;"> 4. Develop pupils&#8217; number sense. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">Materials that will be needed: -Realia (marbles,comics, abacus, place value teaching aid) -Manilla card -Worksheets -Powerpoint slides -games -prices of familiar things -distances like in running race and so on.</span></p>
<p>As for the hook, <span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">set induction for maths (additon and subtraction). Teaching children the basic computation is no easy job. Children are easily intrigued when they are interested in something or when they can remember something that is fun. For the set induction, we would tell the class a story on how a young boy wants to buy something in a market and he only has $10 with him. The first item he bought cost him $3 and the 2nd item he bought caused him $3.50. He wanted to buy this lollipop that caused $3 but he isn&#8217;t sure if the money he have left would be enough. Then after we finished telling the story, we will tell them why it is important to know how to add and subtract and let them get the picture on what is additon and subtraction. After that then we start to introduce what is additon and subtraction.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">Exploration means the students have to have a hands-on experience to better the understanding and to stimulate the learning experience of the children on additon and subtraction. After the set induction, the teacher will give a few more explanation regarding the topic as well as give examples on how students could apply the addition and subtraction. The teacher would give a few questions on the board and the students will be asked to solve the questions by using the teaching aids provided. This will consist of blocks, lego toys (that can be connected), marbles, sweets and etc. Questions will be like &#8221; Ali bought 5 sweets from the market. Ahmad gave him 2 more sweets after that. how many sweets does ali have altogether?&#8221; Studnets will tehn have to use the sweets provided and compute the questions in order to get the answer. Other than that, exploration could be in the form of games. How about subtraction bowling? Make pins from 1 liter soda bottles. Students take turns bowling and writing the subtraction equation. 9 pins, 4 hit: 9 &#8211; 4 = 5 Give each bowler 2 turns. So the second turn would be 5 pins, 2 hit: 5 &#8211; 2 = 3</span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">Portfolios can be beneficial for lower primary Maths pupils because in the portfolios the students work are assessed, collected and put together where it can be either from their written work (exercises) or the e-portfolio such as blogging. Their works then can be their referrence when they have problems or even improving their performance. The teacher can help the students as well as helping among the students themselves.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:x-small;">The teacher can teach the students the spelling of a number by doing an activity such as using flashcards done bye the pupils. The teacher show them flashcards of a number then ask them to spell it out loud. This can be either in groups on individual. this will make the students remembers the spelling easily. Choral reading on the spelling and singing can help them remember the spelling easily because this becomes more fun for them to read it loud together. The higher ability students can also help the lower abilty students and they will not be scared to sing and read it out. </span></p>
<p>The pupils can then post their flashcards or the songs they like in the blog so that they are able to use it again in the future and share it with their friends.</p>
